Select Function key if you’d like to use the F-keys for standard functions, and Multimedia key if you want to use F-keys for performing functions that would otherwise require you to press the Fn key. You’ll see two options here: Function key and Multimedia key. Select the drop-down menu under the Function Key Row option under the Customized by Dell Inc. Alternatively, you can go to the Control Panel and navigate to Hardware and Sound > Windows Mobility Center. Press Win + X or right-click the Start Menu button on Windows 10 to open the power menu and select Mobility Center. If you own a Dell laptop that runs Microsoft Windows 10 or 8, you can change function key settings from Windows Mobility Center. You can also change Fn key settings from within your operating system. Change Fn Key Settings from Within Windows Press the key with the lock icon along with the Fn key. You can disable it the same way as you’d enable it. If you’re experiencing something similar but want to use your standard F-keys, you’ll need to disable the Fn lock. You won’t need to hold the Shift key for typing caps when Caps Lock is enabled. Simply press the relevant F-key, and that should work. Now, you can create a new key remap using the guide above or exit PowerToys completely.Once you’ve done this, you won’t need to press the Fn key for performing functions like adjusting the screen brightness or enabling and disabling WiFi or Bluetooth. Once there, click the trash icon and press OK to confirm. All you need to do is go to Keyboard Manager in PowerToys and click the “Remap a key” button to take you to the list key remaps. Now in Keyboard Manager in PowerToys, you will see the key remap that you created.ĭeleting a key remap is easy. Now as long as PowerToys is running, any time I press Scroll Lock, the key will act as the Paste shortcut on my Windows 10 PC. Choose Continue Anyway to confirm the key remapping. At this point you will see a pop-up message confirming your key remapping selection. Once you are finished making your selections for the key remapping, Choose OK to confirm. In the “Mapped To” field, I will enter the Paste keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + V) as I want to remap Scroll Lock to act as the Paste command any time I press the key. Keep in mind you can choose the key that you want to remap by choosing it from the drop down menu or by choosing Type and simply typing out the key you want to use. For this example, I am going to use Scroll Lock as a replacement for Paste on Windows 10. Choose the plus button (+) as shown to add a new key mappingĪt this point, you will need to choose a key that you want to remap in the “Key” field and what you want the key remapped to in the “Mapped To” field.
